Now that you are pregnant...are you scared to be a MOMMY?
Has it hit you yet? Somewhere along your pregnancy journey…all of a sudden, you realize that YOU are soon going to become “the Mommy" of this little person growing inside of you. Fear washes over you! You are the one that has to solve the problems of why baby is crying, you are the one that will feed, bathe, and care for this helpless new life. Secretly, you start to worry about your own lack of baby knowledge. Even though you may have been the best babysitter as a teen or been around lots of babies before as an auntie or friend, you now do not think that you have what it takes to care for this new little baby. Now YOU are the mommy. Yikes!

I can remember when this wave of fear hit me, I was reading in one of my many pregnancy books about swaddling a baby. I had no idea what swaddling was! Then it hit me…what do I know about babies! Sure I had babysat my share and I love babies…but being “the Mommy" is a whole different thing! What had I done? (Just in case you are like I was…swaddling is a way of wrapping a baby in a receiving blanket so that he or she feels nice and snug like in the womb…a very important technique for a new mommy to know for the first few weeks of baby’s life!)

After the panic attack was over, I realized it was time to learn about infants. I needed to know the basic day to day things that I would be dealing with. Every mommy-to-be that I have spoken with has had the same fears at some point. Do what you can to educate yourself about the basics of infant care and then…relax! You will learn as you go!
