How to find the perfect name for your baby
Finding a name for your baby is not always easy. Some people are more traditional than others, opting for family names, while others want something unique and not very popular. If you are looking for a name that is popular and trendy today, than check out the Social Security Administration for the most popular names of today. But if you are looking for a name that will mean something to you and your child, something different, something perfect for that little miracle growing inside of you, than here are some suggestions.
You will want to first decide if you are going the traditional route and giving the baby a family name. If this is important to you than by all means go for it. Just keep in mind that this is the name that will stick with your baby the rest of his or her life, and if you name your son, for example, after your grandfather Glenn John Smith III, your child will be dealing with an out of date name and maybe a little resentment. But let’s say you want a name that is different, stemming away from your family and giving your child his or her own name. The easiest way is to first think of names you like, sounds you like. If the name Christine has always appealed to you because you like names that start with the “ch" or “k" sounds, than you should look for names with the beginning being a ‘k’ or ‘ch’.
Another way to decide what name your child should have is to decide if the names meaning is important to you or not. Baby names AND meanings are typically taken into consideration, and can be found at http://www.pregnancy-health-center.com/baby-names-list.html. For example, if you are a Christian, you may want your child to have one of the strong Hebrew names, like Benjamin, which means son of the right hand. In the Bible, Benjamin was the son of Jacob, and Joseph’s brother. If you decide that baby names AND meanings are not important to you, than please keep in mind that if you name your child Cameron, because you like the name, his or her name means crooked nose! Not so nice… is it?
In summary the name you give your child should come from your heart, and should be a joint agreement between husband and wife. Asking your parents or family for their opinions is also a good idea. You may like a name like Claude, but your family may remind you that your last name is Maude, and Claude Maude just isn’t cute. Asking for help is always a good idea, and can be fun. So get to work, the clock is ticking, and that baby will be here before you know it!!!
